St Matthews has an outreach to the Eric Miles Cheshire Home in Milnerton. Volunteers visit there on a Tuesday and a Wednesday morning each week from mid January to late November. During our mornings we play games with the more mobile residents and generally help where we can. Many of the residents do not have family and enjoy being visited. We also help in many other practical ways.
Funds are always lacking and so we try to fundraise on an on-going basis by recycling used Greeting cards, refurbishing them and selling them. Donations of any used cards are always welcome.
The home has a féte each year where volunteers from different places sell goods, the funds all go to Cheshire Home.
Coffee mugs filled with marshmallows and wrapped in cellophane are given by the congregation to each resident and these are presented to them at the annual Christmas Party held in November. Volunteers are always needed at this time as there are a number of residents that require help in feeding and there is not enough staff to cover this.
There is also a shop on the premises that sell donated clothing and other bric a brac and donations are always welcome.
On the last Sunday of the month St Matthews holds a church service for the residents. We sing hymns and a short sermon is given by someone from St Matthews. The attendance for these services has grown over the years and it is wonderful to witness the joy of the Lord in the lives of those who are so disabled.
